Low Density Poly Fittings (LDPE)

Low Density Poly Fittings (LDPE)

Low Density Poly Pipe or LDPE has a maximum pressure rating of 300kpa. It's the most common pipe used for most domestic irrigation applications and some commercial. Using good quality low density fittings will ensure no leaks or ruptures and always secure each end of your barbed fittings with a ratchet clamp.

For all low density fittings you will need some type of clamp.  Clamps with a ratchet fit used to secure poly pipe to barbed tail fittings are recommended. They should be used every time a barbed tail fitting is used with poly pipe.

Any fitting with a BSP thread, Teflon tape should be applied. The only scenario where tape is not required is when an adjoining  fitting has an O-ring or rubber washer installed.  If applied correctly, Teflon tape will create a waterproof and airtight seal around the thread.

The most common causes for leaking fittings are high pressure or inadequate installation.  Most barbed fittings require a clamp to go around the hose or pipe for security and threaded fittings should have teflon tape applied with at least 8-10 rotations.  If your pressure is too high you can install a pressure reducing valve at the start of your system.

No, low density fittings are rated to a maximum pressure of 300kPa and are not suitable for high density or static pressure applications.  High density pipe requires compression fittings rated up to 1600kPa.

Low density fittings have a BSP thread, the same as PVC fittings.  You can go from poly to PVC or vice versa using threaded fittings.  We recommend always using Teflon tape when adjoining two threaded fittings.
