Tap timers typically have an internal built in valve, are powered by batteries and generally only service one zone. Most tap timers have a limited flow and limited functionality. Controllers, whether battery operated or AC, have a separate valve(s) and can service one or multiple zones. For more complex programming and functionality we recommend investing in an automatic controller with the ability to connect other accessories such as sensors.
A misting timer is generally used in greenhouses to cool the overall temperature of the house when propagating or growing. They usually have shorter run cycles, meaning that the "run" times start and operate in seconds and generally use intervals in their programming for continuous cycles of use. Standard irrigation or reticulation tap timers generally only have run times that start and operate in minutes, meaning 1 minute is the shortest run time, and limited start times around 4-8. This doesn't necessarily allow for continuous use throughout the day when misting to keep an area cool.
Currently on the market, the only wifi-enabled timer is the Orbit B-Hyve Smart Hose Timer. With the addition of the Wifi Hub, this timer can be programmed and controlled from anywhere and uses the local weather station connections to keep the system off if it is, or has been, raining. It also has a built-in flow meter to make sure your plants are getting the right amount of water by volume.
Dural Irrigation stock and sell 2 different automatic controller kits, which include a full manifold, solenoid valves and controller based on the amount of stations you need. The Toro Tempus Battery Controller Kit, and the Hunter Node Kits are two of our best selling battery controllers and have almost everything you need to automate your irrigation or reticulation system. They are both great value for money and easy to install!
