Can I leave my pump outside?

In most situations your pump will be required to be installed outside. You can leave your pump outside, but to prolong its life and efficiency we recommend it to be installed/ mounted off the ground on a suitable base and covered with a ventilated covering.  The Polyslab pump covers are a great choice as they come equipped with a base and lid rated to withstand the harsh Australian environmental conditions.

Can I get a submersible pressure pump?

Yes, submersible pumps are used for many purposes including dewatering, irrigation and household pressure.  Submersible pressure pumps are generally quieter than a outdoor pressure pump and do not require self priming. Located inside a rainwater tank often located beneath the ground. For more information visit our submersible pump collection and/or our free pump sizing form.

What fittings do I need with my pump?

This is dependent on your water source and delivery application.  Storz and camlock fittings are the best option for fire fighting pumps, whereas brass or poly fittings are suited for the domestic pump.  We always recommend installing a ball valve on the delivery side of your pump, so you can isolate your system in the event of leaks or maintenance.

How do I size the right pump?

Dural Irrigation are your water specialists with well trained staff in the principles of pump operation and selection.  There are many factors to consider when selecting a pump including flow, pressure, application and water source. To assist you in sizing your pump, fill out our pump sizing form or call us on 1800 244 389.

How do I choose the right pump type?

In irrigation and water applications, different water pumps are used for different applications. The different pumps include:

Pressure pump systems which are used for household pressure boosting or tank supply and in basic irrigation applications.

Transfer pumps are not used as commonly as the others. A transfer pump is used as the name suggests; when moving water from one place to another. For instance, from a water tank to a garden pond, or even from one holding tank to another.

Firefighting pumps are used mostly in rural areas with farms and large open bush land. They are either petrol or diesel motors, depending on the application. Firefighters are high pressure, high flow and good for transferring a lot of water quickly without using any power.

Submersible pumps are quite commonly used in tank water run households and also used commonly as drainage pumps from pits or wells. They are commonly designed with an automatic float switch to turn the pump on and off based on water availability.

See our blog for more information.

Does my fire pump need to be serviced?

The initial investment of a fire pump is a substantial one and is a key part of your fire protection system, which makes the service and maintenance even more important. Just like cars your fire pump needs to be serviced annually, or every 50 hours of use. As a piece of equipment that is not used on a regular basis, it is vital that the condition of your fire pump and components are tested and serviced regularly. This will also increase the lifespan of your pump.
