How to: Program Your Hunter X-Core Controller

Having trouble with your Hunter X-Core? Not sure where to start with programming your zones? Let us show you how with a simple step-by-step.

The first step to programming your Hunter X-Core Controller is to set the date and time by following these steps.

  1. Turn the dial to the CURRENT TIME/DAY position.
  2. The current year will be flashing.  Use the (+) or minus (-) buttons to change the year.  Once completed the right arrow (>) to procced to set the month and day.
  3. Press the right arrow again and now the AM, PM will be flashing.  Use the buttons to select AM, PM or 24 hour.  Once complete use the buttons to move to hours, minutes etc.

SETTING STATION START TIMES:

Step 1Step 2Step 3Step 4

IMPORTANT: In the Start Times dial position, the numbers 1-4 do not represent stations.  The numbers represent the program start times.  Each program can start up to 4 times on the set days to water.  One start time will activate all stations sequentially in that program.  If you want the stations to operate one time in sequential order and then not repeat, set start times 2, 3, and 4 to OFF.  Multiple start times in a program can be used for separate morning, afternoon  or evening watering cycles.  Start times maybe entered in any order.  The X-Core will automatically sort them.

EXAMPLE:

Program A has four stations (1-4) assigned to it and the program has only one start time set for 5:30AM.  At 5:30AM, station 1 will water for the allocated run time, followed by station 2 for its allocate run time and so on until all four stations have completed.  Start times should appear as you see in the chart to the left.

Individual stations are assigned to a program (A, B, C). Each program requires only one start time to initiate a watering sequence of all the stations assigned to that program.  Start times are assigned to programs, not stations.  The controller will operate the stations in numerical order.  When a station has completed its watering time, the controller will switch to the next station in that program automatically.

FLOWPRO TIP:

It is important to utilise all three programs if you have multiple stations. Lets look at the previous example. You have 2 different stations running pop up sprinklers for your lawn, 1 station running dripline in your garden bed and the final station running sprayers in another garden bed.

All three of these applications require different amounts of watering maintenance. You may only want to run your lawns once a week at 5:30AM, yet you may want your dripline running up to 3 times a week for 20 minutes each time, and your sprayers about 3 times a week, but only for 10 minutes each time.

By setting up all 3 programs and having different stations allocated to each program, you'll be able to utilise the full capability of the Hunter X-Core Controller and control your watering down to the minute.
